Partner Spotlight: Earls and their legacy of community

We’re especially excited to team up with Earls Kitchen + Bar, whose appreciation for community is rooted in their family-run business. Earls has been around for 38 years and has always focused on what's most important: bringing people together.

Building community runs in the family

In the late 1950s, Leroy Earl Fuller (or “Bus” for short) and his family moved to Canada, making a new home in Edmonton, Alberta, where he later owned and operated a string of early A&W franchises, steakhouse concepts and a 24-hour diner.

It wasn’t long before he got into business with his eldest son, Stan Earl Fuller, to create today’s beloved Earls restaurants. Together, the father-son duo opened up shop in 1982 with their first restaurant located on Calgary Trail in Edmonton. It was always in their genes to give back to their communities the way they knew best–through their love for food and the connection it afforded people.

“We see ourselves as neighbours–we’re not just part of a community that needs a place to eat and drink, but sometimes a place to connect, a helping hand, a space to make memories, build relationships, and come back time and time again. It’s about being part of something bigger than ourselves. Our restaurant started with family and that still holds true today.”

Growing the family business all across North America

Now, Earls can be found in 67 locations across North America with 5,800 employees. And despite their massive success and evolution, the legacy that Bus and Stan molded still lives on, even generations later. Their mission to create an approachable place for friends to gather, families to celebrate and staff to learn remain at the heart of their business.

When the time came for Stan to entrust someone else to take over his position as President, it comes as no surprise that he appointed Mo Jessa, a loyal employee who started out his career as Earls’ dishwasher before working his way up the ranks to Sous Chef, Executive Chef, Vice President of Operations, then finally to earn his place at the very top. 

The close-knit relationships forged under Earls’ roof cultivates a sense of belonging that lasts a lifetime because they treat everyone–staff, customers, suppliers, neighbours–like their own family.
