If you've ever checked your credit score and thought, “OK, where do I go from here?”—you're not alone. Credit building can be confusing, especially when nobody shows you what actually helps build credit history.
The Neo Build membership is Neo's answer to that. It gives you access to the credit-building tools that matter most—secured credit card access, guided habits through our Credit Builder tool, score monitoring, and everyday perks on top of your Neo card or account—so you're not figuring it out alone. Neo memberships speed up your access to credit with more tools. No matter where you are on your financial journey, there's a Neo membership that can bring you closer to your goals. Every Neo member gets core money management tools with Essentials. From there, you can explore paid memberships like Start (soon to launch), Build and Grow.
If you’re actively building credit history and want access to secured credit¹—or want increased limits when Neo's 0%-interest cash advance launches—Build may be the right fit for you. Keep reading to learn more about what comes with Neo Build, and how it can help you progress your credit journey.
What’s included in the Neo Build membership?
Build sits in the middle of Neo’s memberships. It includes everything in the soon-to-launch Start membership: everyday perks like free Interac e-Transfer® payments, free Neo Money ATM withdrawals, $0 NSF fees and 1-day early payroll. On top of this, Build includes a 2.5% Neo Savings rate² and credit-building tools:
- Credit Builder tool: Track the habits lenders care about and get guidance on how to build your credit history³
- Credit score monitoring: See your score—and the factors affecting it—in real time⁴
- Secured credit card access: Add security funds (starting at $50) and start building bureau-reported credit history
- Neo’s soon-to-launch 0%-interest cash advance⁵: Get increased limits compared to Start. On-time repayments can help build credit history with both of Canada’s credit bureaus, which may unlock more credit products down the line
The Neo Build membership costs $9.99 per month, but the fee is waived for Neo World Elite® Mastercard cardholders⁶. You can upgrade, downgrade or switch memberships anytime within the Neo app⁷.
How the Neo Build membership helps you build credit
Neo Build brings together several credit tools that work together—access to a secured credit card, guided habits through the Credit Builder tool, and visibility into your score over time—to help you make tangible financial progress.
Secured credit access
To get access to secured credit with Neo, you need either Neo Build or Grow. That’s the key difference from the soon-to-launch Start membership, which doesn’t include secured credit card access.
For Build and Grow members, here’s how secured cards work: You set aside security funds, that amount becomes your credit limit, and your card usage gets reported to Canada’s credit bureaus, Equifax and TransUnion®. Pay your credit card bills on time, keep your balance manageable, and you build the kind of credit history lenders look at. Over time, you may become eligible for a higher limit without adding more security funds.
Credit Builder
Watching your credit score move up and down isn’t a plan. Credit Builder gives you progress tracking and clear, actionable steps that may help you build your history more effectively and influence your limit eligibility. It’s an educational tool, so your results ultimately depend on how you use your accounts.
Credit score monitoring
Credit score monitoring shows your current TransUnion® score in the Neo app. It tracks changes over time, and breaks down what’s affecting your number with personalized tips based on your score factors—whether that’s payment history, credit utilization, account history or hard credit checks.
Neo Advance (coming soon)
Bills don’t wait for payday, and many Canadians don’t have the luxury of missing a deadline and dealing with penalty fees. We know cash flow gaps happen, and that’s why we built Neo Advance, which helps cover cash gaps at 0% interest. Every on-time repayment you make helps you build credit history with Canada’s credit bureaus. Compared to Start, you get access to increased Neo Advance limits with the Build membership.
Neo Build vs. Start: which fits your goals?
Can’t decide between Build and Start? Here’s how these two Neo memberships compare:

|---|---|---|
Best for | Speeding up access to credit and a stronger Neo Savings rate | Understanding your credit profile and unlocking chequing perks |

Credit score monitoring | Yes | Yes |
